The Outset Partners Awards Programme 2023 awarded an Impact Award to STORE STORE Build, to support their work in exploring and testing how small council-owned garage sites can become beneficial community build sites, creating flexible creative workspaces for the next generation of creatives in London. Simultaneously an after-school programme for young people and a building project, STORE STORE Build ensures that those taught have an active role in the delivery of the architectural project – from the planning, design and construction. Outset has awarded funding in support of the development of a robust case study for the project in Hackney, with a resulting series of three publications and series of exhibitions so that the work and knowledge developed can be shared with councils and community groups.
Kevin Green, Director of STORE said:
“Transforming a design and build project into an educational program for young people is exciting because of the impact it could have for community infrastructure projects in the future. Through a series of After School Clubs, Summer Schools and workshops in schools, we are teaching students ways of designing and making that are directly fed into a community build project proposal. We are overjoyed to receive support from Outset. This funding will allow us to begin building this project into a case study and recipe so that similar projects can happen across the country.”
