Outset Netherlands is proud to have supported Chapter 4OUR: Abundance curated by writer, maker, and activist Simon(e) van Saarloos and curator Vincent van Velsen at Het HEM.
In Chapter 4OUR: Abundance, Simon(e) van Saarloos offers a radical view of a world overflowing with possibilities, identities, and ideas. Abundance assumes that everything already exists; no existing form is obligated to defend or prove itself. Thinking from abundance is a philosophical attempt that recognises current identity frames, but also encourages to refuse and surpass them. Abundance is the wealth of presence.
The artworks and public program that create Chapter 4OUR: Abundance defy the mentality of scarcity that dominates society, normalising hierarchical differentiation, comparison, and competition. The show included work from Carly Rose Bedford, Christine Sun Kim, Evan Ifekoya, Francesc Ruiz, Goldendean [Dean Hutton], Harry Dodge, Jacolby Satterwhite, Marlow Moss, Mire Lee, Samantha Nye, Tabita Rezaire, Tarek Lakhrissi, Wendelien van Oldenborgh, and Zach Blas.
Outset’s support went towards the production of the scenography created by Théo Demans in collaboration with Clemence Seilles, and making it possible to show the 2019 work Basilio by Raúl de Nieves.
In 2019 Outset Netherlands committed to a multiannual support of Het HEM – a new home for contemporary culture with a multidisciplinary art program made with visionaries of our times; individuals who broaden our view through their personal story, professional practice, or perspective. Their mission is to invite today’s creative makers and thinkers and collaborate with them to develop multidisciplinary art programs that shed new light on the world around us. This year was the last installment of our support and followed the previous year’s semi-permanent installation Sanctum by Dutch artist Levi van Veluw and 2019’s CHAPTER 2WO by Chilean artist and composer Nicolás Jaar.
