In the context of the 4th Athens Biennale, Outset Greece supported the international symposium SE THELO SA CHORA – Erect like a country, initiated by Barbara Pola and generously supported by Denys Zacharopoulos.
The symposium is an homage to Greek writer and poet Dimitris Dimitriadis. The idea for the symposium had been triggered by his iconic premonitory text Dying like a Country (1978), in which the state of erection is celebrated as an antithesis to death. Writer Maria Efstathiadi will give an introduction to Dimitris Dimitriadis’ work and his recent unpublished work Lycaon, An Apology for Desire will be the starting point of a performance directed by Yannis Houvardas.
Speakers include Paul Ardenne, professor of history and history of art & architecture, University of Amiens, France; Vincent Cespedes, philosopher; Rodolphe Imhoof, Permanent Delegate of Switzerland to UNESCO; Eliza Nicolopoulou, psychologist and psychoanalyst; Dimitris Paleocrassas, art consultant; Denys Zacharopoulos, director of the Macedonian Museum for Contemporary Art; and the organisers Maro Michalakakos, Elli Paxinou and Barbara Pola.
