In 2010 Outset supported the artist-led initiative Screening at Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, London.
Screening considers the subtleties of display in materiality; with video works by Oliver Michaels, Paul Pfeiffer, Ryan Trecartin and Tom Smith and the paintings of Albert Oehlen, Armen Eloyan, Daniel Sinsel, George Young, Robin Footitt, Sachin Kaeley, Stewart Cliff and Toby Ziegler.
An occupation of sorts; Screening emerges from within an office block frame. Reopened to a succession of viewing spaces, a venue for consideration towards recent progression in painting and video also projects a time-marked standard, an occurrence filled with encounters.
Painting becomes an extension of the qualities attached to duration. The work inside the passages of this building come from recent continued and renewed sequences. Selection forms unrest in the finality of the material. Re-edit. Video becomes an extension of the qualities attached to painting’s duration. The work inside the passages of this building come from cut sequences. Edit forms unrest in the finality of the material. Thus frame by frame, the essence of image capture also revaluates the purpose when considering the temporary nature of this proposition.
Screening determines a preview and a spot to retain distance from which to view.
The project was co-ordinated by Robin Footitt and Sachin Kaeley and was presented as a temporary and preliminary structure built inside a 5000+ sq. ft, two-storey office block in Knightsbridge, London. Curated by Robin Footitt.
