In honour of the Outset | Unseen Exhibition Fund, the independent curatorial committee consisting of Eva Eicker (DE, 1981), Sena Çakirkaya (TR, 1984) and Joachim Naudts (BE, 1982) selected photographer Vincent Delbrouck (BE, 1975)at this year’s edition of Unseen Photo, the contemporary photography fair.
The Outset | Unseen Exhibition Fund is a unique partnership between Unseen and Outset Netherlands, providing a new institutional platform for emerging talent. Scouting the fair before opening hours, each year the curatorial committee selects one artist exhibiting at Unseen for a solo exhibition the following year at Photography Museum Foam, Amsterdam. The selection committee is renewed annually, and – comprising three curators of the youngest generation – prioritises new talent and youth.
This year’s committee on their choice: “The work of Vincent Delbrouck struck us as an interesting opposition to the clean aesthetics that are so predominant in the digital realm. While combining the physicality of the analogue imprint with an intuitive and instinctive way of working, Delbrouck creates installations as a flux of life.” At Unseen 2015, Delbrouck is presenting two projects, which both span the last ten years. The pictures are taken in Cuba and Nepal, locations which Delbrouck often revisits, hereby reassessing his own work.
