The Art Licks Weekend is an annual three-day festival for which young galleries, not-for-profit projects, artist-run spaces and independent curatorial projects are open to the public with special events and exhibitions of work by emerging artists across London. The Art Licks Weekend is a unique event that encompasses the most exciting artistic talent and innovative ideas in London; celebrating the creative energy of this young art scene. The festival concentrates on those pockets of artistic activity in East and South London where some of the most interesting exhibitions, events, screenings and performances take place – including Bermondsey, Bethnal Green, Deptford, Elephant & Castle, Hackney, Hackney Wick, Haggerston and Peckham.?The festival launched in October 2013 and included over 70 participating spaces showcasing more than 250 artists.
For the 2013 festival, Art Licks partnered with bubblebyte.org to present the project, Il Bardo di Timperley, funded by Outset Contemporary Art Fund. Il Bardo di Timperley was both an online show and a collaborative moving image collage. Starting from early September, moving image artworks from 16 international artists were added to the Art Licks Weekend website every few days, slowly revealing a much larger collaborative work in the form of a moving image collage. This final image was then exhibited in its entirety during the Art Licks Weekend.
Participating artists were Laura Buckley, Rhys Coren, Constant Dullaart, Paul Flannery, Warren Garland, Riley Harmon, Tom Hobson, Candice Jacobs, Angelo Plessas, Tom Pounder, Nicolas Sassoon, Laurel Schwulst, Tim Steer, Oliver Sutherland, Lewis Teague Wright, Lance Wakeling.
