3 137’s F.A.R. (Floor Area Ratio) project, which began in December 2020, concludes with a third part on the occasion of 3 137 and former nightclub Enallax’s spatial redesign so as to house Ideas and Solutions for Your Home group exhibition.
Named after a well-known Greek magazine specialising in interior design, and home improvement, the exhibition draws its inspiration from its content, using the theme of residence, and the notion of home as a starting point. The triggering event is the evolution of the Athenian apartment and its rapid change from a social achievement and an amenity into an investment value. The exhibition looks into the city’s recent history, the immense growth of tourism, and the phenomena of gentrification that have been observed over the past few years.
The works of the show create narrations on design, home spaces, planning, and how these generate moral, social and economic values, how items oscillate between art and decoration, and how functionality and planning tell both a personal and a collective story. In the meantime, while the image of the house is taking shape, a stock market is in full gear at the back. The abrupt surge in renting prices, the irregular drift of real estate along with handsome investments are taking place in parallel with home decoration, radically changing the image of the city, and the life of its citizens.
The display of the works in the exhibition is developed through artworks and design objects which refer to archetypical household items such as the chair, the bed, the lamp, the rug. The objects are mindfully placed in the exhibition’s spaces so as to create sections: entrance hall, living room, office, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, upper room. At the same time, they are a comment on the way we live our lives in apartments, as well as on how our identity and social status is reflected in our living spaces. The questions posed by the exhibition are supported by a collection of research material.
