Akiyoshidai International Art Village – Artist In Residency Fellowship program 2022
1st – 31st March, 2023
Dora Economou is an artist in residency of Akiyoshidai International Art Village – AIAV Fellowship Program in 2023. Her artistic practice is sculptural, handmade, process-based, and material-oriented. It is both figurative and narrative, as she approaches art-making from a spoken-word and story-telling angle. She regards materials as characters, the processes are the grammar that turns them into objects and concepts, the rhythm between forms and absences, light and darkness is the syntax. The title is the punctuation mark. She is greatly interested in the limitations of translation in-between different languages, peoples, cultures and disciplines. Starting from Lafcadio Hearn, she investigates whether contemporary visual culture could compensate for the intellectual, ethical and experiential gap.
