locus athens commissioned Christoforos Marinos to curate a series of conversations with artists based in Greece at their new space TAVROS. TAVROS is a non-profit space, founded by locus athens in October 2019, which aims to respond to the social and political circumstances around us through dialogue, listening and learning.

Crossings was a series of conversations curated and coordinated by art historian Christoforos Marinos held once every month (from February till June 2020) with artists based in Greece from different generations. The invited artists had the chance to exchange views and share references and obsessions. In turn, the audience had the opportunity to delve with greater depth into what drives artistic practices. Each conversation was based on the media used and the thematics that the respective artists touch upon.

Crossings #1 “Painting Isn’t Enough For Me

Painting is the subject of the first conversation between four acclaimed artists: Apostolos Georgiou, Ilias Papailiakis, Eftihis Patsourakis and Mantalina Psoma. As the suggestively provocative title suggests, the starting point of this talk was to question the relevance or necessity of painting today.
