Bold Tendencies, ‘The Remastering Project’, 2022

The Outset Partners Awards Programme 2021 awarded an Impact Award to Bold Tendencies, which occupies the rooftop spaces of a former car park in the centre of Peckham, South East London. Open to everyone, Bold Tendencies is committed to participation and enjoyment of a rich, experimental Visual Arts and Live Programme. Their Live Events Programme is central to the organisation’s running since 2011 and takes place in the covered spaces under the rooftop.

This project has sought to transform these covered concrete spaces into a truly experimental civic space and place of assembly for the past 14 years. Focusing on sustainable and long-term progress, Bold Tendencies worked together with Feilden Fowles Architects, acoustician David Parsons of leading acoustic consultants Vanguardia and Wayne Powell of d&b audiotechnik, to double the capacity of their large-scale lower floors. The Remastering Project involved sonic and acoustic developments, responding to the unique challenges of the space and allowing a more immersive experience for audiences, a new ‘stage’ and in-house seating and staging kit. This new acoustic and creative infrastructure expanded their ability to organise and produce live events that complement the thematic interests of the rooftop sculpture programme each year.

Initially postponed due to the pandemic, the project was realised in 2022. The Remastering Project radically transformed Bold Tendencies and elevated its value, setting up measurable impact and long-term growth.
