Multidisciplinary artist Anat Ben-David was a guest of Outset Bialik Residency during October 2017, for the work on her performance ‘Kairos‘, presented at HaZira Performance Arena in October 2017.
‘Kairos’ by Anat Ben-David, previewed at Stanley Picker Gallery in January 2017, premier at Victoria and Albert Museum in July 2017 and restaged in collaboration with Hazira theatre Israel in October 2017.
Inspired by Sadie Plant’s seminal book Zeros + Ones (1997), ‘Kairos’ is a theatrical song-cycle bringing together performers and musicians from the worlds of opera, electronic and experimental composition, in a futuristic staging created with avant-garde fashion studio Boudicca. Following the poetic schema of Zeros + Ones through a cycle of nine songs, ‘Kairos’ makes reference to technological developments, post-humanist writings and cybernetic theories.
London based artist Anat Ben-David returned to HaZira after 18 years of a rich and diverse career, with her international work ‘Kairos’, in a special production for the first Autumn Cult. (This is also a symbolical return to HaZira, since already in its first incarnation as HaBama Theatre was the breeding ground and port from which she embarked on an outstanding career).
Anat Ben-David is an artist, musician, and member of the performance group Chicks on Speed. After graduating from the School of Visual Theatre in 1994, she produced multidisciplinary pieces as the resident artist at HaBama Theatre (now HaZira) under the direction of Mario Kotliar. In 2003, she graduated with distinction from Goldsmiths College graduate program, and in 2015 she received a Ph.D. from Kingston University, London. Ben-David’s performances and collaborations were featured in various international venues including Tate Britain, London; ICA, London; MoMA, New York; Migros Museum, Zurich; Borealis Festival, Bergen; Beursschouwburg, Brussels; MoMAK, Kyoto; Montermeso, Vitoria; Mosak, and ZKM, Karlsruhe.
