Outset UK

Outset has been helping artists to realise their visions since 2003: we give strategic advice, we broker new relationships, we build communities of interest, we expand public audiences, we create circles of trust.

Inspired by a wave of energy in the contemporary art scene Outset England was founded in London in 2003 to offer bespoke solutions to support new art. Outset England has impactfully pooled private funding to fill the void of responsive philanthropy in the arts. The Outset Frieze Tate Fund was Outset England’s launching project embracing the international ambition brought to London by the Frieze Art Fair. The fund has added 100 international artworks to the Tate Collection. Since then Outset has worked with most public institutions in England and extended its activities worldwide with over £10 million contributed to the public sector.

Under expert guidance, Outset’s directors, patrons and partners provide funds to respond to what artists and curators really need, making giving the experience.

Our ethos is best expressed through our name: be there at the outset. That’s why we can offer our supporters – both individuals and corporates – experiences, insights and opportunities they won’t find anywhere else.

Outset awards grants to museums and galleries, as directed by our patrons in a consensus-driven journey each year, led by an independent research fellow.
The charity is governed by a board of eight trustees who all have an equal vote and responsibility in ensuring that the executive team and operation is being efficiently managed in line with our Articles of Association, and the Charity Commission guidelines.
